Bishop Robert Barron and the Diocese of Winona–Rochester are seeking a mission-driven Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to provide strategic leadership and oversight of all diocesan financial operations. Serving as a key member of the Bishops leadership Cabinet, the CFO ensures the financial integrity and long-term sustainability of the Diocese in alignment with canon law, civil law, and the teachings of the Catholic Church.

About the Role

The CFO oversees the full scope of diocesan financial administration, including:

  • Financial planning, budgeting, and reporting

  • Accounting, internal controls, and audits

  • Investments and cash management

  • Risk management and insurance programs

  • Compliance with Church, state, and federal regulations

  • Oversight of financial operations for diocesan entities, including the Catholic Foundation of Southern Minnesota and Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary

Key Responsibilities

Provide timely and accurate financial reports to the Bishop, Diocesan Finance Council, and senior leadership

  • Lead and monitor the annual budgeting process

  • Oversee annual diocesan audits and ensure strong internal controls

  • Review contracts, legal documents, and matters involving extraordinary administration

  • Administer insurance programs, pension plans, and internal audit processes

  • Coordinate financial policies across Human Resources, IT, Buildings & Grounds, and Cemeteries

  • Represent the Diocese in financial matters regionally and nationally

  • Lead and manage the finance team

Required

  • Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field

  • 8–10 years of progressive financial leadership experience

  • Strong knowledge of budgeting, accounting, investments, and financial reporting

  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and organizational skills

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and work collaboratively at all levels

Qualifications for
the Role

Preferred

  • MBA, CPA, or Certified Diocesan Fiscal Manager (CDFM)

  • Experience in nonprofit or Church financial administration
